Slack Connect invitations, approvals and connections

The admin settings behind a Slack Connect channel: the two invitation types and who can send each, who can join other companies' channels, approval rules and per-organization exceptions, bulk approval and revoking, allowed workspaces and automation rules in an Enterprise org, the connections view, removing an organization, and the 250-organization limit.

Official exam objective

~7 min read · 10 practice questions ·

What the exam expects

  • Configure which Slack Connect invitation type members can send (Permission only to post, or Permission to post, invite, and more) and who can send each.
  • Control who can accept invitations to channels owned by other organizations.
  • Set approval rules, customize them for one external organization, approve or deny in bulk and revoke unaccepted invitations.
  • In an Enterprise org, limit Slack Connect to specific workspaces and stop policy-breaking invitations with automation rules.
  • Use the connections view, predict what removing an organization does, and apply the channel limits.

Key terms:

  • Invitation type: Permission only to post or Permission to post, invite, and more, which sets external people's permissions in the channel.
  • Approval settings: when Slack Connect invitations need approval, who approves and where requests go.
  • Connections view: the summary of every connected and disconnected external organization, with per-organization settings.
  • Automation rules: rules built with the Slack Connect APIs and applied before invitations are sent (Enterprise orgs).
