The Short Answer

The Salesforce Certified Slack Consultant exam (Slack-Con-201) has 60 scored multiple-choice/multiple-select questions plus up to 5 unscored, a 90-minute time limit, a 67% passing score, a US$200 registration fee (US$100 to retake) and no prerequisite. Its questions align to the Summer '24 release (checked in October 2026 against the official Slack Consultant exam guide and Trailhead Academy).

This is the exam for people who lead Slack rollouts for clients: discovery, Enterprise org ("grid") design, migration, policies and settings, channel strategy, governance and training. The heaviest sections are Policies and Settings (22%), Learning and Enablement (18%) and Delivery and Migration (17%). It's the successor to the partner-era Slack Certified Consultant credential, and it rewards change-management judgment as much as product knowledge.

67% of 60 is about 41 correct answers, and 90 minutes for up to 65 questions is roughly 1.4 minutes each. Consultant questions are short client scenarios, so the time is usually enough if you don't overthink them. Who the Slack Consultant Certification Is For

Salesforce recommends at least one year of experience managing software implementation projects for clients, and expects candidates to be comfortable recommending Slack solutions, policies and settings in a customer-facing role, per the exam guide. The background it lists:

  • Software implementation and project management
  • Change management
  • Discovery: finding pain points and eliciting business requirements
  • Launch support: a migration and governance plan
  • Post-launch support: enablement and learning plans for end users

The guide's list of typical roles is long: implementation and services consultants, engagement managers, enablement and learning consultants, project managers, change-management consultants and systems-integrator partners among them. If you run Slack inside your own company rather than for clients, the Slack Administrator exam guide is the closer fit. If you build Slack apps, see the Slack Developer exam guide.

The Seven Exam Sections and What They Test

All weights come from the official outline.

Policies and Settings: 22%

The biggest section: helping org and workspace stakeholders agree on settings, admin roles and their permissions, the analytics dashboard, identity management (SSO, SCIM, IdP groups), org-level security, compliance capabilities, channel-management settings, Slack Connect settings, and app approval.

Watch for: org policies versus workspace settings, and which role can change what. A Workspace Primary Owner, an Org Owner and an Org Admin are not interchangeable, and the exam tests the difference.

Learning and Enablement: 18%

Slack's experiential "learn Slack in Slack" approach, separate curricula and learning plans for admins and users, learning materials, live facilitation, troubleshooting common user issues, and a rollout communication plan.

Watch for: answers that train people in a slide deck when the scenario calls for hands-on practice in a real channel. Slack's approach is to learn by doing.

Delivery and Migration: 17%

Delivery best practices, roles between Slack, the partner and the client, the end-to-end migration process, pre-migration work (scheduling, user cleanup, communications) and running the migration itself.

Watch for: order of operations. The Trailhead migration module calls email cleanup to match the identity provider the most important pre-migration task, and a paid workspace can't be scheduled until its billing is linked to the org (Complete premigration steps, Prepare to migrate).

Grid Design: 15%

Turning discovery outputs into grid recommendations, grid best practices, designing and presenting feasible options, and getting sign-off.

Watch for: workspace sprawl. Trailhead's grid-design guidance aims for a primary workspace where people spend most of their time, two or three workspaces per member at most, and the fewest workspaces that meet the need (Compare grid design models). A new workspace is rarely the answer when a channel or multi-workspace channel would do.

Discovery: 10%

Articulating Slack's value, researching the client's background and current ways of working, asking about current Slack use and future goals, setting a vision statement and success metrics, and asking about security and policy needs.

Channel Strategy: 10%

Channel basics, naming conventions, channel use cases, and Workflow Builder workflows such as onboarding and daily standups.

Governance Structure (Owner and Admin Roles): 8%

Forming the governance team, the admin support model (how requests, help and approvals flow), and which admin processes can move into Slack.

What's Changed in Slack Since Summer '24

The exam text is from Summer '24 and still says "Enterprise Grid" throughout. Three changes are worth knowing so current documentation doesn't confuse you:

  1. Plan names. Slack's Help Center now lists Pro, Business+ and Enterprise+ (Enterprise+ arrived in June 2025) and calls the multi-workspace structure an Enterprise organization (plan updates). Read "grid" on the exam as an Enterprise org with several workspaces.
  2. Workflow Builder. The legacy Workflow Builder and steps from apps stopped working on September 26, 2024 (Slack changelog). When you design an onboarding or standup workflow, think of today's Workflow Builder with templates and connectors.
  3. AI and apps. AI features now come with Slack plans rather than a separate add-on (plan updates), and legacy custom bots stopped working in March 2025 (deprecation changelog). The Summer '24 outline doesn't test AI, so don't pick an AI feature as the fix for a change-management problem.

A Four-to-Six-Week Study Plan

  1. Read the exam guide once. The verbs tell you the job: articulate, educate, facilitate, recommend. Most questions ask what the consultant should do or advise next.
  2. Take a baseline. Try the 18 free Slack Consultant practice questions to see the scenario style and spot weak sections.
  3. Work the official trailmix. The credential page and Trailhead Academy link Prepare for your Salesforce Slack Consultant Exam. Its modules on migration, grid design, identity and channel strategy map straight to the outline.
  4. Spend the most time on Policies and Settings. Make a table of org-level versus workspace-level settings and who can change each one.
  5. Walk a migration end to end. Write out the steps from request to go-live: approvals, email cleanup, SSO, billing, scheduling, migration day and smoke tests. Questions about the order of steps are common.
  6. Draft a mini engagement. For a made-up client, write a vision statement, two grid options with a recommendation, a channel naming convention and a launch communication plan. It's the fastest way to make Discovery, Grid Design and Enablement stick.
  7. Practice under time. Book the exam when you're comfortably above 67% and can explain why each wrong option is wrong. Our guide to answering Salesforce scenario questions helps.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many questions are on the Slack Consultant exam?

60 scored multiple-choice/multiple-select questions plus up to 5 unscored ones, in 90 minutes, with a 67% passing score, per the exam guide.

How much does the Slack Consultant exam cost?

US$200 (JPY 30,000) plus applicable taxes, and a retake costs US$100 (JPY 15,000), per the exam guide.

Do I need the Slack Administrator certification first?

No. The exam guide lists no prerequisite. Admin knowledge helps a lot with Policies and Settings, though, so many consultants take Slack Administrator first or study both together.

Is Slack Certified Consultant the same as Salesforce Certified Slack Consultant?

Yes. The Salesforce Certified Slack Consultant is the successor to the Slack Certified Consultant program, and its Trailhead page is trailhead.salesforce.com/credentials/slackconsultant.

Is the Slack Consultant exam hard?

It's rated intermediate, but it assumes client delivery experience: Salesforce recommends a year of managing implementation projects. People who know Slack's settings well but haven't run a rollout often miss the change-management questions.

Does the Slack Consultant certification expire?

Only if you skip maintenance. You complete one Slack Consultant maintenance module on Trailhead each year, per the exam guide.
