The Short Answer
Salesforce Certified Agentforce Sales Foundations (exam Sales-101) tests sales skills, not Salesforce configuration. It's the exam that used to be called Salesforce Certified Sales Representative. You get 40 scored multiple-choice questions plus up to 5 unscored, need a 70% passing score, pay US$75 (plus tax), retake for free, and there's no prerequisite (checked in October 2026 against the official exam guide and Trailhead Academy).
One fact is in dispute: the time limit. The exam guide says 105 minutes and Trailhead Academy says 70 minutes. Plan for 70 and treat anything extra as a buffer. The six sections are Planning (21%), Customer Engagement (15%), Deal Management (37%), Pipeline Management (12%), Forecasting (6%) and Customer Success (9%). Sales Foundations Is the Old Sales Representative Exam
If you searched for "Salesforce Sales Representative certification", this is the same credential under a new name. The old Trailhead address, trailhead.salesforce.com/credentials/salesrepresentative, now redirects to the Agentforce Sales Foundations credential page. The official cert-prep module still carries the old name in its address: Cert Prep: Salesforce Certified Agentforce Sales Foundations.
You'll also see "Sales Foundations" without "Agentforce" in places, including the exam guide's own URL. That was the name in between. All three names point to one exam.
"Agentforce" here is a brand name, not an AI exam
This is the most common misunderstanding about Sales Foundations. Salesforce added "Agentforce" to the names of several sales credentials, but this exam's outline has nothing about building agents, writing prompts or configuring AI. The exam guide describes candidates whose skills "span customer communication, research, discovery, team selling, value selling, and account planning and strategy."
In other words, it's a sales methodology exam. You need to know how a good rep plans a territory, qualifies a deal and handles an objection. You don't need to know where a setting lives in Setup. If you want an exam about configuring Agentforce, that's the Agentforce Specialist.

A few things worth knowing:
- The time conflict. We read both official pages on the same day. The exam guide's "About the Exam" section says "Time allotted to complete the exam: 105 minutes." The Trailhead Academy page's "Exam details" says "70 minutes." We don't know which one your exam session will use, so practice at the shorter pace: 70 minutes for up to 45 questions is a little over 1.5 minutes per question. Your registration confirmation should show the real figure.
- 70% of 40 scored questions means 28 correct. That's a higher bar than Platform Foundations' 62%, so don't assume "Foundations" means easy.
- Retakes are free, but there are waits. Salesforce's retake policy lists Agentforce Sales Foundations at USD 0. After a first failed attempt you wait 24 hours, after a second you wait 14 days, and a third failure in the same release cycle means waiting for the next cycle.
- It doesn't expire. The exam guide says there's no required maintenance for this certification at this time.
For how this compares with other exam fees, see Salesforce certification cost and retake fees.
Who Should Take Sales Foundations
The exam guide says candidates "should have 6 months to 3 years experience as a sales representative." That tells you who it's for: people who sell, or who work closely with people who sell.
It's a good fit if you:
- Work as an SDR, BDR or account executive and want a credential that reflects your sales skills
- Are moving from sales into a Salesforce role and want to show you understand the business process the CRM supports
- Are an admin or consultant who builds for sales teams and wants to speak their language
- Want a low-cost first certification with free retakes
If you've never worked in or around sales, expect the scenarios to feel less intuitive than a product exam. The answers rest on sales judgment, not recall.
The Six Exam Sections and What They Test
The outline comes from the official exam guide. Most questions describe a sales situation and ask what the rep should do next.
Deal Management: 37%
The biggest section by far, roughly 15 questions. It covers:
- Qualifying a prospect before moving to the next stage of the sales process
- Discovering the customer's strategies, goals, initiatives and challenges to scope a solution
- Building and presenting a value proposition based on customer needs
- Removing the challenges that block the deal, including objections and negotiation
- Gaining commitment and closing a formal contract
Watch for: answers that jump ahead. If discovery isn't done, the right move is rarely "send a proposal." Questions reward the rep who confirms need, budget and decision process before pushing forward.
Planning: 21%
- Elements of territory planning
- An approach to engage key accounts
- Calculating whether a quota is attainable from account, territory and prospect insights
- Building relationships with key roles and personas
Watch for: quota questions that require simple math. Know how coverage and win rate combine to tell you whether a target is realistic.
Customer Engagement: 15%
- Thought leadership and credibility that shift how the customer thinks
- Using multiple touchpoints to build interest and agree on why a solution fits
- Nurturing relationships and driving adoption after the sale
Pipeline Management: 12%
- Finding and generating new pipeline
- Reading pipeline health and keeping the data accurate
- Pipeline progression and stage velocity
Customer Success: 9%
- What's needed to book and fulfill orders
- The post-sales customer journey
- Comparing the value a customer expected with the value they actually got
Forecasting: 6%
- Assessing forecast accuracy
- Measuring a deal's risks and opportunities
- The key inputs that drive a forecast
At 6% this is only two or three questions. Don't skip it, but don't spend a week on it either.
A Two-to-Three-Week Study Plan
- Read the exam guide once. Ten minutes on the official outline so you know what each bullet asks for.
- Take a baseline check. Try the 18 free Sales Foundations practice questions before you study. They're spread across the sections by weight, with answers and explanations, so you can see where you're starting.
- Do the official prep. The credential page links Salesforce's trailmix and the cert-prep module, which has one short unit per exam section.
- Study by weight. Spend over a third of your time on Deal Management, then Planning and Customer Engagement. Pipeline, Customer Success and Forecasting together are about a quarter of the exam.
- Map it to your own deals. For each section, think of a real deal you've worked: where it was qualified, who the economic buyer was, what objection nearly sank it. Scenario questions are easier when you've already reasoned through similar ones.
- Practice at the 70-minute pace. Do at least one full timed run and review every miss until you can say why each wrong option is wrong.
- Book when you're scoring well above 70% in practice. Free retakes help, but the 24-hour and 14-day waits still cost you time.

What Comes After Sales Foundations
For people who want to move from selling into designing sales solutions, the next step is Agentforce Sales Consultant (formerly Sales Cloud Consultant). That's where the product depth arrives: opportunity management, forecasting setup, sales data and the Agentforce features for sales teams. It has its own prerequisite, so check the details before you plan around it.
The Agentforce Sales Consultant practice exam shows the outline, exam facts and sample questions so you can see the jump in difficulty. Sales Foundations gives you the vocabulary that exam assumes, such as stages, pipeline and forecast categories.
