Managing Work Orders23% of the exam

Where products required live (work types, work orders, work order line items), how they are inherited and edited, their quantity, unit of measure and parent fields, the permissions they need, and how they differ from products consumed, which adjust inventory and carry prices.

What the exam expects

  • Add products required to the right record: a work type for every job of that kind, a work order or line item for one job or one task.
  • Predict what inherited products required do: copied once, editable on the work order, not pushed down from a work order to its line items, not updated by later work type edits.
  • Configure the product required fields: quantity, Quantity Unit of Measure picklist values and Parent Record Type for reporting.
  • Grant the right permissions to view or change products required on work orders, line items and work types.
  • Choose products required (what to bring) versus products consumed (what was used, with stock and price).

Key terms:

  • Product required: a record naming a product, quantity and unit of measure needed to complete the work.
  • Product consumed: a record of inventory used during the work, taken from a product item so stock is adjusted.
  • Product item: the stock of one product at one location, selected on a product consumed.
  • Parent Record Type: product required field that says whether the parent is a work order or a work order line item.
