The Short Answer

The Salesforce Certified Omnistudio Consultant exam has 60 scored multiple-choice/multiple-select questions plus up to 5 unscored, a 105-minute time limit, a 67% passing score, a US$200 registration fee (US$100 to retake) and no prerequisite. Its questions align to the Spring '26 release (checked in October 2026 against the official exam guide).

It's a design exam, not a build exam. The guide says candidates aren't expected to implement the solution, troubleshoot it, write code or configure the application. Expect scenarios where a customer describes a requirement and you recommend the right Omnistudio tool, data source, Data Mapper type or governance approach, and justify it.

67% of 60 is 40.2, so you need 41 correct answers and can miss 19. 105 minutes for up to 65 questions is about 1.6 minutes each, which is comfortable if you read each scenario for the one constraint that decides it: read only or read and write, one object or several, internal users or a public site, data that changes every minute or once a quarter. For fees and retake rules across every Salesforce exam, see Salesforce certification cost and retake fees.

Who the Exam Is For

The exam guide describes a candidate with at least 2 to 3 years of Salesforce experience in a customer-facing, consultative role: Business Analyst or Business Consultant, Consultant or Senior Consultant, Solution Architect, Delivery Manager, Project, Product or Program Manager, or UX Designer. They gather business requirements and decide which Omnistudio tool should implement each one.

The guide expects you to understand the benefits and limitations of Flexcards, Omniscripts, Integration Procedures and Data Mappers, plus the Business Rules Engine tools (Expression Sets and Decision Matrices). It also expects familiarity with Agentforce Service, Agentforce Sales and Experience Cloud, the ability to download and adapt an Industry Process, and the ability to write an implementation plan for the design.

What it rules out matters just as much. You won't be asked to write JavaScript, HTML, CSS or Apex, analyze performance, or configure Salesforce Platform security. If an answer option is a build step and another is a recommendation with a reason, the exam is usually asking for the recommendation.

A note on names: current Salesforce Help calls the data tools Data Mappers (formerly DataRaptors) and spells the products Omnistudio, Flexcards and Omniscripts. Older blog posts and modules still say DataRaptor Extract or OmniScript, so translate as you read.

The Six Exam Sections and What They Test

All weights and objectives come from the official outline. The weight is spread evenly, so no single section carries you.

Flexcards18%11
Omniscripts17%10

Omnistudio Fundamentals (16%)

Industry use cases (telco, energy, healthcare, public sector), evaluating a customer's requirements, assumptions, risks and constraints, the purpose of each tool, the two runtimes, upgrades, and licensing.

Know the two runtimes by name. Managed Package Runtime runs Omnistudio from the managed package on custom objects; Standard Runtime runs it on the standard data model built into the platform. Salesforce's install and upgrade page says that after you install Omnistudio Spring '24, the org gets future major and patch upgrades automatically, and it gives manual upgrade procedures for orgs that aren't upgraded automatically. The outline's term "Manual Intervention Upgrade" isn't defined on any Help page we found, so learn the automatic-versus-manual distinction rather than a definition. Moving to the standard runtime means disabling the Managed Package Runtime setting after confirming the components you rely on are supported, and Salesforce says not to re-enable it afterwards.

For licensing, the permission sets page says the Omnistudio Admin permission set license is now called Omnistudio, with two permission sets: Omnistudio Admin (full CRUD to build) and Omnistudio User (read access to run, plus Omniscript Saved Sessions). Authenticated users on Experience Builder Aura sites need the Omnistudio Runtime for Communities license instead.

Flexcards (18%)

The heaviest section: choosing the data source, designing a card that pulls from several sources, actions (links, modals, launching Omniscripts, calling Integration Procedures, child Flexcards), conditional rendering with states, and where to embed the card.

Watch for: the data source question. Salesforce's Flexcard data source page lists Data Mappers, SOQL, SOSL, REST, Apex Remote, Apex REST, Integration Procedures, Streaming API, custom JSON and autolaunched flows, and recommends an Integration Procedure when the card needs several actions in a single server call (for example, a Salesforce record plus an external API). It also notes that the Streaming API data source is only supported with the designer on a managed package, so it's the wrong recommendation for a Standard Runtime org.

Omniscripts (17%)

Multi-step, conditional and branched guided processes, multi-language support, which elements answer which need (Steps, Blocks, Inputs, Display, Formulas), embedding LWCs, child Omniscripts and Flexcards for reuse and branding, and validation and error messaging.

Watch for: reuse. When two processes share the same five steps, the consultant answer is a reusable child Omniscript, not a copy that has to be maintained twice.

Integration Procedures (17%)

HTTP Actions to external endpoints (authentication and request/response mapping), and using a Data Mapper Transform, Set Values and Response actions to shape data before it reaches the client.

Watch for: two things. The outline mentions REST/SOAP endpoints, but the HTTP Action page describes an action that "executes a REST call" and documents no SOAP pattern, and it recommends Named Credentials for authentication. And caching: the caching page says Org Cache is shared by every user in the org, is for non-sensitive data only and holds data for up to 48 hours, while Session Cache holds user-specific data for up to 8 hours. A product catalog suits Org Cache; a customer's account balance never does.

Data Mappers (17%)

Choosing the type, complex mapping with formulas and functions, performance (fewer queries, efficient filters, relationship queries, caching), and how a Load handles IDs, upserts and errors.

The Data Mappers overview is the page to know:

TypeWhat it doesRecommend it when
ExtractReads one or more Salesforce objects, with formulas, defaults and output mappingThe output needs several objects or reshaping
Turbo ExtractReads a single object plus fields from related objects; no formulas, custom JSON, defaults or transformationsA simple, fast read of one object
LoadCreates and updates Salesforce data from JSON, XML or custom inputSaving what the user entered
TransformRestructures data in memory, without querying Salesforce; can produce PDF or Docusign outputReshaping or document generation

Watch for: a Turbo Extract recommended for a read that needs a formula. Its configuration page lets you follow parent relationships up to five levels, but formulas still rule it out.

Best Fit Solutions (15%)

Where Omnistudio fits in the wider enterprise landscape, performance across components, governance for development, testing and deployment (change management and documentation standards), and conceptual, logical and physical data models, including standard versus custom objects.

The best single source here is Salesforce's When to Use Data Mappers and Integration Procedures. A single Data Mapper is enough when you read or write SObjects (but not both), the objects are related, and formulas cover the logic. You need an Integration Procedure when you must both read and write, the objects are unrelated, the logic needs conditions, or you call REST APIs, Apex, CSV files or external objects, send email or handle errors.

How the Consultant Exam Differs from the Developer Exam

Salesforce offers a sibling credential over the same four tools, covered in our Omnistudio Developer certification guide. The Consultant outline asks you to recommend, advise, guide and justify; the Developer outline asks you to configure, implement and resolve, and gives a whole section to troubleshooting and debugging. If you lead workshops and write the solution design, take Consultant first. If you build the Omniscripts and Integration Procedures, the Developer exam fits your day job better. Many teams hold both, and the shared fundamentals make the second exam faster to prepare for.

A Five-to-Seven-Week Study Plan

  1. Read the exam guide and score yourself. Rate each of the 31 objectives from 1 to 3. Our guide to using the exam outline to plan your study shows how to turn weights into a study budget.
  2. Take a baseline. Try the 18 free Omnistudio Consultant practice questions to see the scenario style and find your weakest section.
  3. Work the official trail. The exam guide recommends the Prepare for Your Salesforce Omnistudio Consultant Certification trail, which Trailhead lists at about 7.5 hours, organized by exam section. Salesforce also recommends the instructor-led course Design and Administer an Omnistudio Solution (OMS335).
  4. Build a decision sheet. One page: which Flexcard data source for which need, which Data Mapper type, when an Integration Procedure replaces a single Data Mapper, Org versus Session Cache, and what changes on Standard Runtime. Most Consultant questions are one row of that sheet.
  5. Get hands-on anyway. You won't be tested on configuration, but building one Flexcard that launches an Omniscript backed by an Integration Procedure makes every recommendation question easier to reason about.
  6. Practice under time. Book the exam when you're comfortably above 67% and can explain why each wrong option is too heavy, insecure or unsupported on the customer's runtime. Our guide to answering Salesforce scenario questions helps with the "choose 2" format.
