Quota attainability by account and territory
How to tell whether a quota is reachable: separate activity measures from outcome measures such as attainment, work the conversion math from accounts to revenue, check that the pipeline is viable, measure every month, and change KPIs intentionally.
Calculate sales quota attainability based on account, territory, and prospect insights.

What the exam expects
- Tell activity measures (calls, emails, meetings) from outcome measures (revenue, attainment, new logos), and name the one that shows progress to quota.
- Explain why activity goals lead to outcomes only when they are met consistently.
- Calculate expected revenue from account, conversion, win-rate and deal-size insights, or from a rep's time capacity, and compare it with quota.
- Check whether a pipeline is viable (deal mix, timing, rep experience) instead of trusting its total, and measure progress monthly.
- Decide how to respond when a KPI is not working or a rep hits quota too early.
- Key terms: quota ("how much money a sales rep is expected to bring into a company in a given year"); attainment (how close, as a percentage, a rep is to the revenue goal); activity measure (a KPI on daily, weekly or monthly actions); outcome measure (a KPI on end results, usually tied to money); conversion rate (the percentage that progresses from stage to stage).
Key facts
Quota
- Detail
- How much money a rep is expected to bring in during a given year; typically the main KPI
Attainment
- Detail
- Outcome measure: how close, as a percentage, a rep is to the revenue goal
Activity to outcome
- Detail
- Works when the activity is achieved consistently throughout the quarter
Conversion example
- Detail
- 500 deals at a 10% conversion rate needs 5,000 opportunities
Pipeline viability
- Detail
- Deal mix, timing (compelling events or budget), rep experience
Measure monthly
- Detail
- Even for quarterly quotas; expectations for progress and closed deals every month
When to adjust
- Detail
- Activity measures during the year (for example at QBRs); attainment shifts less
Quota hit too early
- Detail
- May mean goals set too low; try contests or stretch goals before changing KPIs
- Which KPI shows, as a percentage, how close a rep is to the revenue goal?
- Why can a rep who hits the quarter's total call count still miss quota?
- When a rep chases a quarterly quota, how often should progress be measured?
- What three questions confirm a pipeline is viable?
- When an activity measure is not producing meetings, when and how should it change?
