Response Action: Send JSON Path and additional output

How to shape what an Integration Procedure returns with a Response Action: Send JSON Path and Send JSON Node (including colon nesting and merge fields), Additional Output, Return Only Additional Output versus Return Full Data JSON, Response Headers, conditional Response Actions, and checking the result in Preview.

Official exam objective
Configure Response Action to return specific data.

~7 min read · 5 practice questions ·

What the exam expects

  • Configure a Response Action's Send JSON Path and Send JSON Node to return one node under a new, nested or dynamic name, and predict the resulting JSON.
  • Add key/value pairs with Additional Output, including colon-delimited keys, and choose between Return Only Additional Output and Return Full Data JSON.
  • Use Response Headers, including a StatusCode key, without confusing them with the response body.
  • Place Response Actions correctly: one at the end, and mutually exclusive Execution Conditional Formulas when there are several.
  • Check the returned JSON in the Preview tab.

Key terms: Response Action (ends the procedure and returns data to its caller), Send JSON Path (trims the incoming JSON to one path before the action runs), Send JSON Node (reparents that JSON under a new node), Additional Output (key/value pairs added to the data JSON), Return Only Additional Output (discards everything except those pairs), Return Full Data JSON (returns the entire data JSON).
