Turning script logging on and finding its output: Custom Log Settings levels per category and fatal email, why debug never reaches files on production, the Request Log on sandboxes, the WebDAV routes to the Logs folder, and the size, retention and suppression rules that make messages disappear.

- Certification: Salesforce B2C Commerce Developer
- Exam section: Data Management Using Business Manager Usage

**Official exam objective:**

> Given a debugging requirement or code, configure the logging categories and access the logs in Business Manager.

## What the exam expects

- Enable the right level for a log category in Custom Log Settings so script messages reach a custom log file, and set up email for fatal messages.
- Explain why debug output never appears in production files and choose a workable alternative.
- Get detailed errors for a request on a sandbox with the Request Log, and reach log files through Development Setup or a WebDAV client.
- Apply the 10 MB daily cap, the 30-day and 90-day retention rules, `log_archive`, and redundancy suppression to explain missing or vanished messages.
- Recognise the custom named log file limits that make `getLogger` throw.

Key terms: **log category** (the name passed to `Logger.getLogger`, configured per level in Business Manager); **custom log file** (a `custom*` file written by script logging); **Custom Log Settings** (the Operations page that enables levels per category); **in-memory logging** (debug capture on non-production instances that feeds the Request Log without writing files); **Request Log** (a Storefront Toolkit tool showing the log entries of recent server calls).
